The Silver/Gold Markets may become like 17th Century Dutch Tulip Bulb Mania. At the peak of Tulip Bulb Mania, in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsman. It is generally considered the first recorded speculative bubble.
However, this may be a little different from the 1637 Tulip Bulb crash, and the "Silver Thursday Event" that occurred in the Silver Commodity Markets on Thursday, 27 March 1980, where a steep fall in silver prices led to panic on commodity and futures exchanges. The case today is, the rise of the Silver Market is not just fueled by speculation, but by debasement of the metal content of our coins and the fact our paper money is no longer back by silver or gold. All this and more results in the falling value of the US Dollar.
It's likely there won't be a big bubble and resulting crash... but there will be a point where wide swings and volatility set in. I think we are about $10 away - when Silver reaches the magical $50 per oz (the "Silver Thursday Event Point" or STEP).
Anyone care to speculate when we reach "The STEP". I guess September 21, 2011 Edited by Danester 04/08/2011 11:29 pm

Anything could happen of course. I think the majority of the rise is a bubble. If the Fed raises rates soon to curb inflation, I think things may calm quite a bit. But again, anything could happen.

The Fed raising rates will not curb anything, even if the CAN raise them. The debt we have is already unpayable, let alone what raising the rates will do

Everyone seems to think it is gonna peak at 50, cause that is what happened 32 years ago. So many different factors in play now. People like me buying silver, that would have no idea the value of it, or even have the thought to back in 1980. Not saying there were not smart people out there that new, but they did not learn the info via the net. I was 6 in 1980, so needless to say investing had not occurred to me yet....
The economy was in bad shape in those days, but the problem seemed to be via high oil, resulting in higher costs of gas and everything else you buy that needs gas to help produce what ever that may be. Not say that is not a looming problem, but this quagmire our gov has created is an entirely new monster with multi heads of un-payable debt, and anyway you add up the books, or split up the pie, SOMEBODY is gonna get shafted, be it the military, the senior citizens, whoever, there is just not enough to go around....

What the heck,July 3,2011. It may be much sooner than that and I won't be surprised. When does the debt ceiling debate start? Seems the Tea Party folks were livid over the terms of the budget resolution and are going to take over the debt ceiling battle. That may push us over the $50 mark. Please fasten your seatbelts,we are about to enter major turbulence!

I know this has closed but I think next week. And not truly a bubble because it was not as valuable as it should be. On the other hand, gold = bubble, but nowhere near popping.
