Looking good! I want to get started in ancients as well. What's a good resource on them?

Some of these are from my dealer and some are from ebay. Be careful though because there's a lot of fakes and overpriced ancients. Get a feel for what goes for how much. A couple of these I paid far less than market value just because I did a little research first.

I love the ancients as well. I would have to do alot of studying in the field to even attempt getting into these. I couldn't tell a fake one from a real one if they were side by side.

Before starting on ancient coins, I read all I could on them from books in major public libraries to which I had easy access at the time.
I bought a book: 'Greek Coins' by Charles Seltman.
Then I considered that the Greek coin series was too complex for me, so I started on Roman coins instead. About 8 years later, after being exposed to Greek coins by the collecting of Roman ones, I got my first Greek silver coin. It was an Athenian tetradrachm. I bought this coin off a guy who was recently (at the time) working for Seaby's in London.
Later on, I got a nice gold stater of Philip 11 of Macedon, from Spink's (also from London) via Jim Noble in Sydney.
I have a couple of nice aureii (Augustus and Vespasian), and a solidus, of Leo 1, also from the same source.
I have about 20 ancient Greek and Roman coins, most of which have come from auctions in Sydney.

That's a great way to collect- quality vs quantity. My problem is...I like too many of the ancients to specialize in any one particular area. I've given myself a budget limit (per coin) and that's what I use for my decision making. Most of the coins I've listed were under $15 with a couple of them in the $35-$50 range.

Ikandiggit: Take full advantage of the fact that you DON'T or can't specialise.
At this stage, just make sure that you get the best coins that appeal to you, within your budget, irrespective of which ancient culture it came from.
I still don't specialise. Too much fun finding out about all of them!
