These pages are obsessive,I have to check every day and am amazed at the variety of coins displayed. Agree with Deltron on 22/6/11 that the history of these coins is fascinating.(if only they could talk). Cant wait to get to 1693 so I can post my GB William and Mary shilling.

Sorry, I'm out till 1713.

Can I make a suggestion? First to post a picture of a 2012 coin next year resets the countdown. Then everyone who says they missed out posting a particular year (putting out the garbage, late home from work etc.) can have another chance. Preferably, a different coin to previous post for any particular year; but we probably aren't too fussy here. Main thing is to see how far we can get back now, before the counter is reset. Jeff

After two weeks of no new image postings, it seems pretty obvious that this thread has stalled at 1716. An undetermined number of us have coins that are older, but according to the adopted protocol these cannot be posted out of sequence. So it seems fair to say this noble effort is 'dead in the water', 'down with the ship', or whatever cliche you prefer. If there were coins in proper sequence available to be shown, why would the owners hold out? Perhaps there are some here who are simply not aware of the thread. I can't think of any other logical reasons for not posting if you have something that fits. So rather than play games with dates months ahead, by which time this thread will be buried in the backlog and forgotten by most, it seems more sensible just to announce an end date, at which point if nothing 'new' that is older shows up, then it can properly be put to rest and declared 'finished', or 'best effort', or simply deceased. And then someone can start a 'post your 17th. century coins' and those of us who have been holding our breath can breathe again while we show stuff that will take your breath away.

So the magic number is "1716". I'm sure there are members here who has some 1716 coins but failed to check on this thread. Why don't we post a new thread " WANTED: A 1716 YEAR COIN!"

Why not give a window of opportunity for, say, a 5 year window over a one/two week period? First period (just to get things on a numerical keel) 1716-1710. Next 1711-1705. Then 1704-1700. Get the idea? I'm sure that there are a lot of members that waould like to show off their gems but don't have the opportunity to wait or may miss the boat. On a personal level I'm stuck until 1678 and then 1576!

Thai-vic has a great idea! It's time to broaden the date range to keep this thread going.

Maybe we can say, after three days, move on to the next year.
Sure, it will take nine days to get from 1716 to 1713, but at least it will be moving.

That is cheating and what is the fun in that. There are 1716's out there. I have seen several on ebay but unfortunately no one from Denmark and I only collect Denmark. Please don't destroy this challenge by cheating.

Why not conduct a poll seeking members preferences. Possible questions: Do we skip ahead after X number of days? Do we hold out and wait for someone to post the next years' coin? (we may be waiting a looooong time!) Other suggestions? Personally, I like the suggestion from thai vic, a 5 year window over a one/two week period. At least there would be some action. I was out after 1723 which I didn't post as by the time I remembered, it was already past that date, but I still like to see what others have and at present, something to look at is better than nothing! Let's keep this thread alive!! Not stagnating in the doldrums.

Quote: bomndk:"That is cheating and what is the fun in that." I'm assuming it is not cheating if I post coins of years of this century that we have already passed that missed getting shown. I have a few, so that is what I am gonna do, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. It will help avoid the doldrums until we all can pick up the missing years on ebay. Plus more eye candy! Typically I buy coins every week. I do not visit dealers very often but I am active on the local auction scene. My favorites are those random boxes of unsorted foreign. Never know what will turn up, like this one which I did not have when we were cruising through the late 1700's. If anyone objects to this strategy, please speak up. O/W on with the show!
