Hello to everyone,

I have had this 1859 for a while now but never realized how nice it was. From what I have researched it is a dp # 2. it has a very distinct repunch of the nine as well as the second A in Canada. It has the die crack @ 3:00 and 4:30.

The problem is I don't know the grade. I have heard there are some smart folks on here. Hope you could help me out.

Thanks, Kyle

Hello,

It great to have you with the CC.

I think it would be extremely beneficial for the members if you could also provide detailed close-up photos of the 9 and A you are referring to.

As it is now it is extremely difficult to ascertain anything certain.

Mdpmedia, if you click on his link, you can see the picture of the coin.
That's a nice quality coin, and I'd put it in the AU category.

One of the reasons I replied to this topic was to better distinguish between a re-punched digit and a double die digit.

I realize I am showing my ignorance here and thought that better magnified photos especially of the second 'A' would help me with this question.

I do agree agree, however, with the AU grade of this coin.

It looks like 1859 Dp9#2 the A is hard to see in the picture even when plowing it up 500% but the 9 looks right I think it might make AU/EF for sure the reverse is nicer than the obverse a keeper for sure nice coin.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will try to get the picture of the 9 and A as soon as I can, as well as the die cracks.

The link for the site below shows exactly what my coin shows. Have a look at figure 6 and 7. I will posts pictures soon.

I'm down in the VF30 is range. The corrosion spots on the obverse are somewhat distracting unfortunately for a decent mid grade circ.

Thanks everyone for the replies. So VF-30 to EF/AU is a big difference for this coin. I would like to hear some reasons possible for the different grades.

I do agree with Dan that the corrosion marks are a bit distracting. Unfortunate to be there but still happy to have this coin that my father passed down to me.
