As some of the others mentioned, the biggest thing is to really learn your machine.
For a start hunt in newer areas where there are more targets, try to dig most everything
in the beginning and listen how your machine responds to each type target.
You should notice how good targets will give a good solid response and rusty object
will give a broken signal. Also listen for the difference in shallow and deeper targets.
Another important factor is your sweep. Keep as low and level to the ground as possible.
Do not be in a hurry, take small steps and work good patterns in efforts to cover all the area.
You can miss good targets by just inches, if your coil does not go right over it. One of the
biggest mistakes a person makes is raising the coil at the left and right of the sweep, this
puts the coil to far off the ground to pick up deeper targets.
Also do research on the older areas. A good library should have good books that will show maps
of where local battles were .. where the lines were. They also show where old home sites and
Inn's were located.
FYI .. the battle of Fredericksburg was fought in north eastern Virginia. I know you
just said your neighborhood was called that .. but try and find the battles and camps for
your area.
