The sellers probably buys a bunch of rolls, weigh them and keep the ones that might have silver, then sell the rest. Nice, that's exactly what I was thinking. I think it would not even take that great of a scale to detect at least a 1964 in the roll. Still, selling these things to make ~ $1.00 per roll seems like an awful lot of work. I mean, you get one scammer and it eats up 15 sales worth. |

You can't weigh rolls to find silver reliably. The single rolls being sold probably don't make much money, but they may be from people experimenting with demand or trying to pad their feedback ratings. Looking at completed auctions though, the 10 and 50 roll lots definitely made money.
If you want to try it, buy a box and look at the ends. If you don't see any silver, open every other roll then (depending on what you find) sell the other 25 rolls. You can make money if you do it in bulk, but it my opinion it's too much effort for not enough gain.

It doesn't take much skill to carefully unwrap those rolls search through them and put them back in and just follow the folds back in to make it look perfect again. I tried it to see how hard it would be for someone to do it. And to be honest to see if I could do it. Kennedy's, Sacagawea, & Prez. results were great. And the weight is another factor. But I mean really you can put a 90 or 40 %er in a roll every time you make x amount of money just to get the positive feedback. It doesn't matter that its your sisters husband father uncle. Ok that was a little much. Your better off going bank to bank. Unless your teller lets you roll search for months only to tell you after all the time invested that she keeps all the silver ones for herself and sells them on ebay. LOL |

...there are wayyyy better ways to make money, like buying stuff at off times and selling it during high traffic times with good pics.

For every roll like this, I bet there are dozens of examples of rolls that went for $12-$13 or less. If every roll sold for $21.72, then yeah I would be selling them all day long but the ended auctions seem to show this is not the case at all. |

I think halves are the wrong way to go. If the cent is going to be gone sometime in the next 10 years like many people believe than buy boxes of cents now hold onto them and wait till the cent is gone. Those boxes would sell for a premium. I am not saying you will make a fortune but if you have the extra cash and space you could buy a box a week and hold onto them. At worst they never get rid of the cents and you turn them back in for exactly what you paid for them.
