Thought I'd let you know what I did to up the ante on adding to my modern silver collection. I went down to the local stop-n-rob and told the cashiers I buy older coins. I offer them something like 70% of Melt + A premium for anything overly rare. I also explained to them what coins to look for ,ect. Went back a week later or so and ended up with a nice bag of coins from them. Oldest thing in the bag was a 1924 Mercury dime. Nothing to go crazy over, but now I'm getting a constant flow of coins from them. According to them, the number of people that show up wanting to trade coins for food/drinks goes crazy around the end of the month, with 1-2 people a day trying to pawn coins off on the shop owners & cashiers.

Nice! I have a lady that works the cash register at my gas station keeping an eye out for coins for me. Nothing yet, but she seemed More than happy to oblige me.

I tried that at my bank. I educated them a little. Now they all collect coins and I don't hear from them anymore. But that's OK, they appreciated the information.

That is too funny. All the bank tellers I know keep the silver coins, too. They aren't stupid. ;)
I've been having some gas station clerks save coins for me for years now. I get 'em free (most of the time). It is a fairly consistent flow of silver dimes and quarters (and wheat cents).
The one clerk I know, who gets the most silver, keeps it. A year and a half ago some guy gave him 40 Morgans for 40 in gas. I'm always letting him know how much silver is going for per ounce...and I'm always dropping the hint that I would like to buy his silver.

Sounds like a good idea. I had asked some bank tellers to look for coins for me for a while but never got any calls unfortunately. I must not have smooth talked them well enough.

Bank tellers seem to have more of an idea on what they've got and keep the silver. I haven't had ANY luck with them , store owners on the other hand....

More than likely you won't get any call from bank tellers. If not for themselves they look out for coins for their family members.

That sounds interesting. My sister started recently working as a teller. I should ask her to look out for somethings for me!

At one of the banks I know that teller and manager are coin collectors and they would probably just keep the coins for themselves
