I really dont know how intense the leg needs to be missing, or even if its the front leg thats spose to be missing? Thanks for the info. SsuperDdave Moderator United States 23522 Posts	Posted 05/25/2011 11:58 am The 3-legged Buffalo is a Denver issue, not Philadelphia, so you'd see the "D" mint mark under FIVE CENTS. The frontmost leg (farthest left as you look at the coin) would be completely missing above the hoof. Report this Post to the Staff
Danester Valued Member United States 213 Posts	Posted 05/25/2011 1:10 pm Look for these identification diagnostics (from over die polishing) on genuine 1937-D 3-Legged Buffalo nickels - Reverse 1.) Grouping of raised dots below the Bison's belly, such that it looks like he's "taking a whiz". 2.) Far right rear leg is scalloped-out. 3.) E PLURIBUS UNUM appears closer to the Bison's back. 4.) "D" mintmark aligns left along a perpendicular line touching the right edge of "E" in FIVE. Obverse 1.) Upper back of Indians neck (near hairline) is pitted.
