what the heck do we call a coin that has the most prominent feature of a particular VAM variety, but none of the less prominent ones?

Example: have (gorgeous blast white) 1887 Morgan with the spider-webbish erosion band between the 1 and 8, the key feature of a VAM-1K. but no other feature (die cracks, gouges, etc. ) detailed for this variety at VAM World.

Maybe we create a new grading category? call it an 1887 Morgan VL-65--------VL meaning VAM-like !@!

I suppose I have a really nice 1887 Morgan. end of story...

They will tell you the die is the die over there. It took me a few times to really understand the statement as OZ and Dave would tell you. If what you have is a coin with the erosion band and no cracks it most likely is an early die state and the cracks have not happened yet.

Check the date position and confirm that it is a match. Posting a few photos would help as well

As Twohawks perfectly put it, There are die stages meaning not all the errors found on the coin happened at once.. But rather over time, so one of the PUP's pick up points you found, the spiderweb, but no other points found does indicate
the spider web most like was the first point, however by it self is not listable but rather the early die state in the progression of this particular VAM..
