DVCollector Bedrock of the Community United States 10045 Posts	Posted 06/10/2011 2:47 pm After reading a few recent posts on the 1916, I began to wonder if it's possible to distinguish very worn examples from the 1917? As an example, take a look at this coin being sold as a 1916--is it possible to tell, and what are the diagnostics? I have added a detail of the head to the seller's pic. Thanks! biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 06/10/2011 2:55 pm I would have to say without doubt it is a 1917 based solely on the extreme strength of the shield beading. I think the rim is worn too far into the rim to make any determination there. Report this Post to the Staff

They've also inadvertently had dateless 1917s in "PCGS 1916" slabs. They aren't perfect, but they do have an infinitely better track record than ebay...:-) Report this Post to the Staff
