desertgem Pillar of the Community United States 860 Posts	Posted 06/24/2011 9:45 pm Generally , I consider an impaired proof as one that has been circulated and thus less than MS-60. Yours might be described as MS-60, environmentally damaged or DETAILS MS-60 by some. And the value takes a big wack unless it is a rarer date. For the type II, I have no idea of how much loss. sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21786 Posts	Posted 06/25/2011 12:07 am Those spots are often called 'carbon spots', but they mostly have a large component of copper sulphide in their coloring. Not much you can do about that. Has anyone tried to help a spotted impaired proof with Verdicare? I would be reluctant to try anything else. Vinegar may help on a copper coin with such discoloring in perhaps fine condition, but I would never use vinegar on a proof, discolored on not. Report this Post to the Staff
