Way above excessive in my opinion. But the dollar looks good:

Ya, RCM has several sets going and they release a new coin for each set every so often plus the odd extra coin here and there.

I think it's a consequence of the lower mintages.
Avg. price x Avg. mintage x Number of offerings = Revenue
If the avg. mintage drops, and they don't push the prices up by the same percentage, it is clear what then must occur.

Usually the dollar is offered separately as well. So far, no indication that this is planned.

Does anyone care to guess if this 1911-2011 Dollar set will soar in value as did the Ladybug $20 dollar coin? I mean it has a low mintage of 6000 and it is symbolic of the original 1911 silver dollar that no person has a chance of ever obtaining.

We have 6,000 set minted, but remember that also 15,000 silver dollars could be sold individually. I think this could be a problem. Generally, special edition silver dollars do well very early after their release but eventually drop in price so I think 21,000 coins is just too much and prices will settle rapidly once demand wanes. Also consider that a 90th anniversary of the Canada silver dollar was also released in 2001 (25,000 minted) which is almost identical, except for the "ONE" replaced with "1" on the reverse and the obverse depicts George V in lieu of Queen Elizabeth. This particular coin sells for about $40. Of course I could be wrong...

more interested in the 1/2 oz maple since I don't think RCM did many 1/2 oz coins in the past. Thinking about the proof set too after the breakdown by c_c, agree that this will likely not be an investment purchase. It appears that RCM is gearing up for another round of commemoratives by sending surveys around. 70th of Operation Husky, 100th of Zipper, Castles of Canada, and an interesting one where the public competes for the design for Canada's 150th.

> Does anyone care to guess if this 1911-2011 Dollar set will soar in value as did the Ladybug $20 dollar coin? I doubt it. The Ladybug had first-ever notoriety. This is more like the 1908-1998 RCM 90th anniversary set, with an added dollar. Or the 75th anniversary Voyageur dollar set.

Agreed. That is a fairly big mintage nowadays.
That 2007 enameled Joseph Brant is a surprise. It seems to be a standout disappointment.

One of the major Canadian dealers has posted a message on its website explaining that they have discovered a problem with the packaging of the 2011 SPECIAL EDITION PROOF SET - 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STRIKING OF CANADA'S 1911 SILVER DOLLAR . As such, they are waiting for a solution from the RCM before they can ship them. They do not have an estimate as to when this solution will be available. Sets can still be ordered though.

I had just made enough modifications to my budget to allow for this as an expense. Now I'll have to pay 199.95$ for it on that site that I don't think I'm allowed to mention by name? Anyway, I'm going to shut the gate on my order as the sun sets in the west. :-(
