thanks bobby131313...good macro 101 info. wondering about the camera itself and how this equipment fits into the digital format. Also wondering if I need a camera for photographing coins for grading purposes, or would a scan work just as well?

For some reason I can't see the video, nor any links to it. I'm using Opera and K-Meleon browsers. IE and Firefox use up too much memory on this PC, so I don't and can't use them.

I was hoping to learn more about taking photos of coins since I've been trying to take some photos of what few coins I have.

I always love to back to this thread, as its non biased and really really relates to the fundamentals Of macro photography for the general public..For coins..Coins are a different animal...using these basics, one will get a hand on the coin shooting but will come to know that not all coins are alike..nor are they all made of the same metal..its a simple matter as there are many a thread on the CCF site which address these particular issues...Nova..As for scanners, they can get the details but never the coins luster, in which most cases most selling online the luster is not the breaking point, of the sale,, however never can the scanner truly get the luster or color correct..the back round color behind the coin is usually pretty good(I view coins all time for many years)from a scan, but the received coin in hand is always way off..Especially silver coins..
Thanks Bobby always a great read and never a wasted moment...Gene

If your not getting the link for this thread, I would suggest searching the ADORAMATV.com site to follow there tutorial's

While they don't tell you how to use old camera stuff they do let you see and learn the basics of the techniques needed for macro shots .. one must start from somewhere....One must also know at the beginning of what you are trying to shoot, and if its coins...they come in all colors and sizes...new to old and ancient...each of these while the basics do hold true,,,They will require much different techniques to capture the true look of the coin... Given there dull or shinny appearance......Always a learning curve with the type of coin your trying to capture.. there is no one setup that works for everything...
