It isn't ancient, but since the time this was started I bought a 1000-38 Hungarian Denar under King Stephen I. This was the first coin of the Hungarian empire.

My oldest coin is a 1798 Large Cent I got from my grandfather. It's very worn but the date is legible.

My oldest is an 1889 Morgan dollar with a lot of wear that was part of my grandfather's collection. I'd like to get into ancient coins at some point, but I'd like to learn more before I actually take the plunge in them.

Not really necessary. I like buying things and then learning about them afterwards.

I've been collecting ancients for at least 35 years & I still don't really know what I'm doing. I'd suggest however talking with some guys who run auctions for all sorts of pieces, like Tom Cederlind, rather than buying pieces from anonymous people on ebay.

I've never bought an ebay coin that I haven't returned.

Left, Left is less common.
I need to research this issue and try to nail down the date and mint. I'm guessing about 300 BC.

That's a good call, from a respected source I can at be least be confident in it and then I have something cool to learn about.

My oldest coin, in my 700+ piece collection, is an 1878S Morgan dollar. Below is an image, but I'm really tempted to get it graded to get it's full value. Looks in pretty decent shape.

Here's what I remember off the top of my head.
Oldest overall: It's one of two from the 4th century BCE, I'll have to check. One is Seleucid, the other is from Pantikapaion.
Oldest silver: Gordian III denarius (DIANA LVCIFERA, AD 240)
Oldest dated: Two Livonian solidi dated 1653, but likely not struck that year. The oldest which was probably struck in the year on the coin is a 1678 Scottish sixpence (a $10 junk bin find).
Oldest US: 1798 large cent.
Oldest US silver: 1810 CBH (PCGS VF-35).
Oldest US gold: 1851 quarter eagle (not technically mine, but it belongs to the family).
Oldest English: 1354-55 Edward III groat, S. 1567
