Old gas station token? I haven't seen one like it but I've seen similar. That is my best guess.

Edit: Just to clarify, they used to sell stuff like that in front down low next to the candy and comics so the kids could see them.

Now I am not as old as you might guess from the comment but I happen to live in an area that is very slow to change.

Since it has a hole drilled into it, I think it might have been part of a souvenier that had a ribbon attached. The top of the ribbon might have had a pin which would be pinned to a lapel.

I just saw a display of such ribbons and tokens at the ANA convention. A lot of the tokens were specially made for an event -- like the anniversary of statehood or for a political convention.

I expect there are books on the subject.

I inherited a couple these and it was driving me nuts -- didn't know what they were! LOL One of mine is a colonial coin (with a clear date) and I just couldn't figure out why someone would drill two holes in it. But after seeing the display at the convention I feel fairly certain that the coin is the only part that remains of a souvenier pin of some sort.

I'll throw out a guess...this was made in 1932 or later.
Someone worked from the existing quarter bust, flipping it to avoid confusion.
Wear around the hole suggests it was attached to a metal ring, perhaps as a key fob?
Rest in Peace

Good eye, DVColletor. I didn't notice the wear around the hole. And since I'm a newbie it took me a few seconds to realize how you came up with that date. LOL But it is the same, as you said, just flipped.

I assume these tokens have some sort of value. I'm keeping my just because I think that they have a certain 'cool' factor. Not sure I'd buy any though...it's a whole new world of stuff to learn.

Now I have to get up and go look at mine to see if there are scratches around the holes. LOL
