hi all,
I've taken some more pics in the light which will show the coin is silver and also some pics of the size and thickness so hopefully this should answer all doubts and what value is it worth even if not genuine?.

The old thread about this coin is here. It's a silver miliaresion of Byzantine emperor Theophilus, Sear# 1664. Genuine example on Wildwinds here. We know what it claims to be, we just don't know if it's genuine or not. I'm still leaning towards "not", but I honestly don't know if my suspicions about this coin are sourced solely in its polished appearance

I'll move this thread to the Ancients forum and edit the title to hopefully attract the attention of some Byzantine experts.

The last picture makes it look almost plastic-like, reminds me of those fake treasure coins for kids.

I don't think its real - how much does it weigh?

It has a very similar look to the tourist coins you can 'hammer' yourself at various tourist attractions. I made a few Viking ones myself while on school trips to York a few (OK, about 15) years ago.

Scanned through your last thread but cant see weights and measures in them.

Here is one that sold as genuine I'm assuming. There are a couple others here. http://www.acsearch.info/search.htm...=&c=&a=&l=#2
No size was given there but weight = 2.10 - 2.13 grams the OP coin looks to be about 20mm from the ruler.

I don't think the letters on the OP coin reverse look right by comparison.

I know zero about Byzantine coins, but I don't know how the depressions around the cross and legends could be struck that way:

This looks like a fake to me-IMO-The letters in the legend are too thick and more barbarous looking.
