Cool Bank Find:1982 Small Beads 50c

bibd Pillar of the Community Canada 838 Posts	Posted 08/30/2011 9:23 pm I'm at the bank this afternoon and ask (as I sometimes do) if they have any 50 cent coins. Well they had only 4 and so I bought them all: 1969, 1971, and 2 x 1982. When I get home, it turns out one of the 1982 is a small beads variety. I didn't know how to differentiate it from the primary large beads variety, but when I had the 2 side by side it was pretty clear. The relief of the portrait is much different, and there are minor portrait differences too. I didn't even really look at the beads, actually. What an awesome find from a bank! I wouldn't have shelled out $20 or whatever for this, but I'll take it when it costs half a buck! That reminds me... there was a coin dealer near Burlington, VT who looked pretty old (and sounded even older when he spoke)... I'll never forget asking the price on one of my first Buffalo nickel purchases from him. "Half a buck" he said with a really raspy voice... he was a class act, though. Report this Post to the Staff

About two or three months ago I bought about $160 or $170 worth of nickles dollars and halves from the bank and turned up 4 of the 1982 small beads!
