I think I like these new prez dollars...

So-I-Picked-Up-5-Prez-Dollars-At-The-Bank-Today...

I told myself all day this has to be a replica, so I got home and measured...

16.72 g and 27 mm

So-I-Picked-Up-5-Prez-Dollars-At-The-Bank-Today...

I just got back into collecting after a 20 year break. My wife thought I was crazy standing in the kitchen tonight shooting pictures of coins with one white cotton glove on. She asked what was going on and I started telling her how I stopped by the local branch today and picked up 5 of the new prez dollars and she looked down and saw Lady Liberty sitting on the counter. I started to shed a tear of happiness just telling her the story.

So I was telling myself not to get excited, that is was 99.99% sure to be a replica all day, and I was fine with that, it'd be a cool piece to find at a bank for only $1, but now that I've weighed it and measured it... my hopes are up! Please help me confirm this find and what grade you think it might be. I can't believe what great shape it is in, it has a tiny bit of glue(?) at 6 o'clock on the rim and just above the Eagle at 1 o'clockish. Tons of luster still as you can see in the first pic. The scans doesn't show the luster at all.

After measuring this, I am thinking I might need to consider getting it slabbed (authenticated).

If you have a dealer near you that you trust, take it there first. See what they say. If that weight is correct for that coin, I would send it in.

I haven't been able to find any dealers in this area since I got back into collecting early this summer. I have family in the business, but they are in South Florida now. I may have to wait to see them around the holidays. In the meantime I will talk to them and see if they have someone in this area they trust whom I could go see.

Wow...did the teller just pick 5 out of a drawer?
Here's to that being real--it would be quite the find!

XF45-ish, but the look of the reverse around "OF" makes me think it's an ex-jewelery piece. So, a $600 coin becomes, well, still worth a heck of a lot more than a dollar.

Some one must of mix it up thinking it was just a Presidential dollar coin in the bunch.

Well, that's plainly ridiculous. Note to self: take all the gold dollars the banks have.

I wonder how many hands that had to pass through to get to you, It always amazes me! You got a higher power look out for you my friend. Now do you go back in for the rest of the prez, in hopes of another. Or do you stay away just in case they realize what happened. Huummm?
Rest in Peace

I asked if she had prez dollars and she said yes about 20 or so. I told her I'll take 5. She pulled about 10 out and said what are you looking for. I said I don't know the shiniest ones I guess, so she pulled the shiniest ones and said ok, which ones do you want, I said what presidents are they. She said Lincoln, and I said yes, I thought I was lucky to find a Lincoln as those seemed popular from the mint.

Her: Another Lincoln.
Me: I'll take it.
Her: Some lady.
Me: I'll take it.
Her: James Madison.
Me: Sure.
Her: Polk.
Me: Sure.

I walked away without having looked closely at it, but I thought it was cool because it was different. When I got in my car and pulled it out to see what it was, I got excited, even if it wasn't real, which I seriously thought it wasn't at that point, it would be a cool piece for $1. Someone mentioned a while back that nice replicas can still be worth a little bit, so I figured $1 is not a bad investment.

I had that thought tonight that my dad, who passed in May, was possibly guiding this into my hands.

I wonder how much the bank gave whomever for it? $1 thinking it was a prez or $10 face?

So that means we had a lady president and didn't know it.

Darn you learn something new every day.

Cool coin.
