It's a very pretty coin and you paid about double the bullion value so any overpayment isn't too bad. It looks BU with attractive original toning. The strike is very weak even considering that Franklin halves aren't known for sharp detail. The bell lines are mostly missing, Ben's hair is very flat, and the eagle and some lettering on the reverse are weak. This coin would be a good illustration of strike weakness.

I put it at a low MS with a weak strike like you said. I only went off of the bell lines since I don't collect Franklins. This coin might get me started though. I'm typically more about strike quality than I am eye appeal, but for whatever reason the toning told me to buy it.

I don't know if it's just me, but it appears it may have been cleaned and then retoned. There appear to be several hairlines on the obverse and reverse fields.

Dave - I too saw the hairlines. I'm buying this one off of my past purchases with these guys. They are new to Franklins as they typically deal with nickels, so hopefully they don't disapoint!

it is pretty, but unfortunately I think it was cleaned and has such naturally retoned.
Looks like a dip and scrub with a cotton cloth. So its no too harsh, but apparent.
Honestly though they are pretty rad colors (thats right, I said rad), and for only double bullion, I definitely would have thought about it.

I'm not seeing mint-state there at all. Too much handling and table/surface scratches. In fact, wouldn't that mean that Franklin's head was touched up if it's the highest point on the coin? There's only a single bagmark across his cheek.

Hairline scratches do not always mean cleaning. I would go AU58 on it with the scratches being lite circulation marks.

I over pay too. I picked up a AU 43 and 45D walker for 30 and 24 delivered this last week.

I'll get better pictures once it arrives and post them to see what everyone thinks. Even if it turns out to be cleaned and everything else, I still have a few dollars in silver value!
