Foxwoods.....

Quote:
this issue will probably not be a money maker since it will also be issued in the 5 coin set and most likely in a dollar set packaged with the $1 coins of 2011.

They haven't done those "Dollar Sets" since 2007 I believe (maybe '08) Which I'm not happy about, because I liked those ! .....

I didn't "cancel" as mentioned a couple times, because I don't mind having these Burnished ones, even though I don't collect them.
The Proofs are "my" thing........and this special 5 coin Set coming out as well.
I want the individual Proof AND the 5 coin Set ! I would never bust the coins out of this Set......so the fact that I'll have 2 Burnished, and 1 Proof already, PLUS the 5 coin Set, doesn't bother me at all.
Who would bust a coin "out" of this Set just to put it into an ASE album ? ....
A few perhaps....but not I.
So, I need the Set too.

And as far as "switching shops"...... I only have two in town and they're both the same way....... "your Proofs are no more than Bullion right now until Silver settles back down."
I do have another coin shop in a nearby town.... Lawrence, Ks ....about a half an hour away. But I'm afraid all of them are operating under the same theory here.
They are having THOUSANDS of dollars of gold and silver coming into their coin shops EVERY DAY.......people who are selling and want cash, or some even buying gold and silver thinking it will keep going up in value.
This has just EXPLODED for them in the last year or so.

My "rant", I guess, is just because this is the only way I've ever sold a coin (and I've sold VERY few....junk silver and a couple gold coins). These coin shops are "my" only avenue.
So....... Uncirculated Burnished ASE's will not even retain their issue price here, not even by HALF ! .......unless the silver market jumps up and spot price would equate that.

I would never sell a Proof Eagle.....and so these Uncirc's. are "available" for me to sell in the future if I want to......which I may not. But to take this bad of a "hit" on money value right off the bat......at least locally...... really stinks !

Yep, 2007 & 2008. I bought a bunch of both years especially the '08 when they were selling for just around spot price of silver...and you got the five $1 coins along with it

I just have a feeling that they will be back for 2011...

I love how people keep saying until "silver settles down". *snort* People kill me. Silver is finally getting to the value it should have been a few years ago, let alone now, but they just cant accept it. It kills these folks who are so used to it being severely under valued and who have been able to manipulate premiums to suit their bias since the metal has been worth squat. When I say folks, I mean the older guys who have pretty much run the hobby and dictated values for so long. They just dont know how to handle this. Its amusing actually.

Proofs no more than bullion? LOL The cries of desperation. If soeone truly believe silver is going back down into the 18 bucks an ounce basement, they are deluding themselves. If the idiot in office doesn't crash the economy taxing everyone to death, silver will be 50 bucks by this time next year. If he does, then we will be using the silver to barter with for ammo and food.

I agree sadly........It isn't right or fair...but that's all there is here.

"When silver goes back down....THEN I'll get to see a premium for Proof and Uncirc. coins."....."but at THAT time, I'd have been better off selling before a drop in spot price."
Heh Heh Heh.........this "theory" just smells like someone will be making money....but it won't be me !
But I do "get it"......I think.......It's benefiting "them" as businessmen, NOT their customers. It's a "cautious" "protective" measure that ensures they will "make money" NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS !

Maybe I should check out that whole ebay world everyone keeps talking about ! .....

Eaglefoot, You can always sell/trade those coins on here, it's always free and very easy.

So, in the mean time, don't worry about it and just enjoy the coins.

I just received my 2011 ASE today, I signed up for the subscription last month to be sure I got one. I am sure glad I did, I love this coin. I'm thinking of having it graded but am not sure. If it was to turnout to be a MS 70 I would, but it looks like there's one or two minor spots that may keep it from getting that grade.
Any opinions form the senior members?

I made the mistake over a year and a half ago by selling several UNC ASE's to my local dealer, all in great shape but I got way under RedBook for them and was actually given under spot. If I hadn't needed the money so bad I would not have sold. But I do agree the coins do have a premium over the PM value but the only way to ever get that it seems, is to sell to an individual or sell on CCF.

The mint messed up our order: our subscription from the 14th was placed on hold while the manual order we placed for my father-in-law's birthday on the 16th was processed and shipped. I called the mint yesterday and they said the credit card denied the first order...but we used the same one for the second order.

Oh well, my father-in-law (who is totally great, BTW) will get his first!

Tracking says mine left Grove City, Ohio two days ago, so should be here any day. Going to check it out and perhaps order a second if I like it enough.
