I just saw that on the mint website, for the proofs:

Quote:
On-Sale: The United States Mint is currently scheduled to release the 2011 American Eagle Silver Proof Coins on June 30, 2011

For the uncirculated they just say early fall.

I dunno about that "W" mint marked uncirculated, didn't show up last year, and it seemingly was discontinued along with the other burnished coins after 2008.

I don't believe the burnished coin will be struck again. I think it competed with the regular strike and most dealers didn't like the idea John Q. Public could buy the UNC version with a W mint mark. I'll believe the proof will be released when I see it.

Bullion Eagles typically go on sale in late January/early February. The release of the Proof and Uncirculated versions is a bit more random.

The Mint will release the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle on 6/30/2011. The uncirculated version that is release through dealers has been out for some months.

So is the consensus that the uncirculated "w" is done?

Its possible that an S mint marked coin will be produced, they were talking of starting production of silver eagles up at the San Francisco mint because demand is so high.

The bullion versions sold by PM dealers and resellers have no identifiable mintmark. The "W" ASEs were marketed to the general public as collector coins, not as bullion investments, per se. They were struck only between 2006-08, and are highly collectible today with low mintages and a tiny premium over bullion coins. It is unlikely the San Francisco struck coins will have a mintmark, the only identifiable mark for the point of origin will be on the seals of the monster box. Otherwise they should look exactly like the West Point strikes.

Depends entirely if you want to hold some silver as an inflationary hedge or merely as something to start a collection with. Minimally per year, I would purchase at least one bullion ASE and one proof ASE just to have, since the series started back in '86, in the same annual cycle along with the mint and proof sets. Incidentally, the 2010 proof ASEs were priced @ $45.95, making them excellent buys with the consequent rise of silver not too long afterwards. It's gonna be $10.00 or $15.00 more this year for the proof version than last year. Inflation.

Not sure what you are trying to say mojochazz, if it has a W mintmark and it is not a Proof, then it can only be the Uncirculated burnished finish version as the bullion version has never had a mintmark.
