If this Lafayette doesn't make PO01 it should be PO01&1/2. I'm sure there are many holdered lowgrade coins with rim hits worse than this.

Writing to share what I hope will be the latest addition to my PCGS certified circulated set ... 1936 York County (Maine) Tercentenary Half Dollar.Collectors who pursue this set of circulated silver commemorative recognize that many examples rarely become available in the marketplace ... and this present York example is one of only two 50-coin type set examples with only one coin certified below AU by PCGS. FWIW ... the only other type coin with only 1 certified below AU is the 1936 Arkansas-Robinson. Purchased this York recently .... photo: I have the coin in hand and have determined it is authentic. The very dark toned surfaces are distracting to me to judge a grade. I'm thinking XF45 ... welcome your opinions. Coin will soon be on it's way to PCGS for the wizards opinion. I think ms45 is a good assessment of this coin. I hope they don't details it with the x like scratch above the date.

Congratulations on another addition. I would agree with the XF45 with the wear on the shield. Another high point wear mark is the horse and rider by the fort.

Congrats on finding another piece for your collection!
The reverse has an unusual look (at least to me). I'd enjoy reading a more detailed description of it based on your experience/thoughts. Is the look due simply to "normal wear" or do you think something else happened as well?

I know some people like the circulated coins I am more of an MS guy myself, to see the coin in its original state after a 100 years amazes me.
Still a very nice set of classic commemoratives, I started a comm set but man that is one pricey set.

Catching up on recent replies ... with a new downgrade coin to share ... Quote: I'd enjoy reading a more detailed description of it based on your experience/thoughts The problem here commems is my photography skills are not capable of capturing with camera what the eye sees ... in truth the reverse of the York is a crusted toned example ... but no obvious issues ... we'll wait and learn together what the wizards at PCGS have to say. Agreed ... and I am proud of my complete 50 coin MS type set of these lovely coins ... the greater collecting challenge is finding these in honest circulated condition ... a lifetime quest which I have a passion to pursue. Newest downgrade for my circulated set ... 1936 Delaware Tercentenary Half Dollar ... net distribution of 20,993 coins ... amazing that any Delaware circulated long enough to reach this state of honest wear. I grade G06/VG08 or so ... in hand the coin has original surfaces and a light gunmetal gray surface toning ... Pursuit of this set is a lifetime adventure of joy and frustration ... the exact reason why it appeals to me. David

Looking forward to seeing what PCGS thinks on the York.
I've long had an affinity for the Delaware half-dollar, though I'm not exactly sure why. It was the first commemorative for which I actively pursued all of its related numismatic ephemera and thus was the trigger for my similar pursuits for all of the US commemoratives!
I really like the "ghost ship" on the reverse of your Delaware downgrade - Congrats!

David,
That is one nice looking Delaware. I'm guessing it will go lower than VG08
