Ooops ... meant to show you a photo of the entire coin. In hand I grade F12 with an obverse rim ding. Lovely honest surfaces and a great overall look. E-Pray purchase Sept 2010 for $83. David

You're getting there David. How about an update on the holes and ones you're looking to "downgrade"... PG

Thanks Dave for all of the info. and pictures of the Texas commem.
The only Texas commem I have would probably grade XF45 raw.
I think your Texas would probably grade VG8 to VG10 by pcgs standards. It is truly an awesome looking coin with a great cameo effect.

How can you tell that there still is a cameo effect on a coin that shows wear as this one?

Quote: How about an update on the holes and ones you're looking to "downgrade" Good idea PG. I've created a Want List in the new forum. Currently have 12 holes in the Dansco 7094 and 8 "downgrades". https://goccf.com/t/108658Quote: How can you tell that there still is a cameo effect on a coin that shows wear as this one? Steven is referring to what we call a 'circulated cameo' effect. The fields become dark over time, and through circulation wear the legends and portraits become 'light' ... so the contrast in color between the dark fields and light portraits is 'circulated cameo'. The best example in my set is the 1936 Long Island half ... absolutely enjoy that look. David

Thrilled to add my newest 'downgrade' to the set ... an honestly circulated 1920 Pilgrim Half that I acquired from ACE Mike. Great coin ... no problems ... Thanks Mike! David

Quote: The obverse with the Native American chief with his hand extended, as if begging the pioneers to halt their westward advance. I like the "heroic head". In comics, one way to make superheroes look stronger is to draw a head smaller, like 1/7 or 1/8 of the total height, rather than a more normal 1/6.

Love the Pilgrim. Looks AG3 to G4 by pcgs standards. It is hard to find pilgrims in this grade without damage. Nice find!

David - Glad I could help out with one of the items on your want list! I figured that would be a good addition to your set. Keep us updated over in the want list forum. Until next time, ACE Mike

Forgot to mention, I love that Texas halv at the top of page 6. My favorite design of the classic commem set.

Sooooo ... I was relatively satisfied with my Panama Pacific half ... cracked it out of a PCGS XF40 holder .... then came across this nice example in a Teletrade auction: Found it tough to resist. Coin is now living happily in my Dansco 7094 as a nice 'downgrade'. Interesting observation that PCGS did not mind the 3 or 4 rim hits. David Late edit for spllenging

Awesome PanPac Dave! I can't believe I missed this coin. I check teletrade usually once a week, but I have been really busy at work lately. You got a great deal on that coin!
In regards to the rim nicks, PCGS seems to allow a few on lower grade examples (especially older commems). The Maine that I sent in last year had a couple and still received a FR02 designation.
