Those of us that sell on ebay know that the prices of PM's always go down a LOT slower than they go up.

The opposite is true in most markets. ebay is the exception, because some people set snipes and forget about them if the market tanks.

There is also the auction mentality that says the true market price will win, and that the other guy isn't bidding too much. Get two bidders like that, and you get stupid high prices.

I'd trade au for pt, as long as pt is cheaper. That won't last forever.

I agree, Fredd, and would also trade Au for Pt... IF I had any Au, that is.

As it is, my small bullion collection is all in Ag at the moment. Adding some higher priced metal to the collection would be good.

BINGO! Give that man a cee-gar!

I guess the law of supply and demand has nothing to do with gold value...

Actually, it has a lot to do with it but it is NOT the only thing that affects the gold price. It's more complicated than just that.

I saw this on CL today:

Quote:
I have lots of;

90% silver, buffalos, some War Nickels, indians, a few thousand wheats & a couple of small gold coins.

If interested, send me a price that you're willing to pay PER COIN. If I like your offer I will get back to you.

So, I emailed him this:

Quote:
Hi,

As per your ad on Craigs List, I will buy ALL of your 90% UNPICKED and UNSORTED silver for $1.69 PER COIN up to $x worth.

mmerlinn

Now I see his reply:

Quote:
Just so I understand, regardless of denomination, you will pay $1.69 each... correct?

By the way, I've sorted & picked through my coins many, many times.

And I am now sending this reply:

Quote:
Hi,

I will pay $1.69 per coin for 90% U.S. silver coins, which of course are dated 1964 and earlier.

Picking and sorting BEFORE your ad does not matter. All that matters is that I get whatever you have advertised. And that is assuming that they are complete coins, no holes, no clipping.

And just to be clear, buffalos, War Nickels, indians, wheats, and gold coins do not qualify as 90% silver coins.

mmerlinn

Anyone want to give me the odds of buying this?

All I know is what you see in the quotes, nothing more. For all I know he has only silver dimes. Or maybe only silver dollars. I have no clue what he has in silver.

I hate craigslist ads where they say they have stuff for sale, but will not tell you what exactly it is before you meet up. For all I know, they have one silver dime, and 15 junky wheats from the early 1950s, and of course they would probably ask $50.

My opinion is that if a seller doesn't say exactly what it is I don't trust it and will just stay away from it. Usually when an honest person has an item it is fairly and honestly listed as to allow the buyer to know what they are buying

You can catch some real bargains, but it's like yard sales, lotsa dogs. I went to look at a little old lady's coin, which were about worthless, but I bought a killer stereo system, some models and a stack of magazines that I made great money on.

And the saga continues. His reply:

Quote:
Where did you come up with a dollar 69?

Trying to pick my brain, huh? No way, so my reply:

Quote:
Hi,

It's in my bank many times over.

mmerlinn

This dude is clueless. He knows nothing about PMs. He knows nothing about advertising.

According to his CL ad he MUST be interested as he replied to me. And apparently no one else is interested in his miscatagorized and poorly written ad.

And he keeps the dialog going when I figured he would never reply in the first place.

Indeed so. That reminds me of an old quote, "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance".
