AU55-MS63, hard to say because I don't think the TPG's are very good at grading rare coins like this. Nonetheless, it should definately go to PCGS. It's worth joining PCGS for just this one coin, it's worth a few thousand.

Quote:Personally I don't see any reason why it needs to be certified. Is there any reason to believe that it might be fake? I know the Chinese are counterfeiting a lot of things, but 1992 cents? Certifiy it to prove what it is? These are so easy to identify that if you need a TPG to tell you it is a Close AM you probably shouldn't be buying it anyway. And if you do know what it is, why do you need the TPG to tell you what you already know? Do you realize how rare this coin is? It needs to be certified because it's extremely rare and valuable. AFAIK, it is the rarest transitional variety known.

Get it certified by PCGS- it will increase the value of the coin substantially over keeping it raw!

HOLY MOLY ! I had begun to think this coin was just an urban myth! a - 1992 Close AM ? It's got to be the rarest find in a Lincoln Cent roll that I've ever heard of! Congratulations! And Bad Thad's right - you gotta get the thing certified. HOO RAH !

Quote: Do you realize how rare this coin is? It needs to be certified because it's extremely rare and valuable. Yes I do, but it is also extremely easy to identify. The coin is circulated so there is no question about hair splitting MS grades. Frankly with a coin this rare the grade isn't going to matter that much anyway.

I think PCGS is the way to go on this also. If you plan on selling it, you will get the best price if its in PCGS plastic. Even if you plan to keep it, it will be encapsulated and protected. Congrats on a great find!

Holly cow! Incredible find! This will certainly inspire more roll searching! I agree... PCGS slab it. It's too important of a find not to. Once it's stabbed, any and every question of doubt ceases. Way to go! Congrats! Les
