Most coins from this period (rest of the Empire) have 'PF AVG' at the end 'Pius Felix Augustus' = 'Virtuous and happy Emperor'.

Carausius started to include 'Invictus' in his legends so on his coins you get things like 'PFI AVG', 'PFIN AVG' and 'PFINV AVG' etc. 'Pius Felix Invictus Augustus' = 'Virtuous, happy and invincible Emperor'. This is basically propaganda as Carausius was really a pretender to the throne.

There are a number of legend variations but some are rarer than others, some may just be blunders or mistakes by his die cutters. 'PIA' will stand for 'Virtuous and Invincible Emperor'.

I think the first one looks like 'PIA' / 'PAI' and the second 'PIAVG' but the 'VG' is half off the flan.

Your reverses are Salus and Pax in that order

Not bad coins - do you find them all yourself?

Ave Paul and Bobbyhemet,

The first image doesn't look like Carausius coins I've seen, but then again, I don't go out of my way for Carausius coins. I like them just fine and I'd buy another if the opportunity presented itself.

Now, back to your coins. They are very nice coins, and Bobbyhelmet has already attributed before I had a chance at it (bummer). The Salus reverse is the nicer of the two. I kinda like snakes (in their proper place of course), so Salus always intrigues me.

The best part of all three of your Carausius coins are that you found them yourself. Wow! I wish I were in a position where I could at least go look. When I was in Siska (Siscia) last year, I tried to find anyone who would let me use a metal detector. Can you imagine what is still in the ground around these old Roman mints? Anyway, congrats on finding them.
