Not knowing if Dansco albums (not for 2x2s, but regular albums) has acid-free cardboard is what I'm concerned about... has anyone here read a statement from Dansco addressing this issue? Intercept Shield very specifically states all their materials are acid-free and archival quality... is this true of Dansco too?
It never hurts to ask...

I should call them myself, but I have no motivation after almost 27 years of personal experience with their albums.

Taking your argument to its logical conclusion would suggest you should never put coins in any type of plastic material because it is impossible to know if it contains any harmful materials.

Which is why I just bury all my coins in the ground. No plastic in my dirt.

Same thing I keep saying. Ask the people that make the things. Why guess, just ask.

Great discussion, coming along right after I placed many of my recent Morgans into soft vinyl flips I had bought with dealer assurance that they contain no PVC.

Now off to trust but verify and probably change them to my carboard and mylar 2x2s, LOL

2x2's with Mylar windows are fine, bur they should NOT be kept in clear vinyl album pages.

What we need is NON PVC clear album pages!

Those 20 pocket plastic pages are not PVC.
However, not sure if what you mean is for Albums. Yes, your right. Those would be rather interesting pages in an Album.
I know the manufacturing process for cardboard and paper pages with plastic slides are an easy product to produce, but all plastic pages would be interesting. I wonder why no one has made those yet. Maybe if Dansco or Whitman reads this post, it would be a product of tomorrow. AND we don't get credit for that either.
Rest in Peace

Whitman albums use acetate slides. They're fine unless they scratch the coin.

That's what I thought of too! A Bostonian pronunciation of "cardboard".

Actually most of the commonly available ones ARE PVC. There are some archival pages available made of Polyethylene or polypropylene but they are harder to come by and more expensive. One of the easiest places to find them used to be Photography shops where they were used for 2X2 slides.

Checked online and archival 2X2 slide pages are available by the box at around 40 cents per page. (They've come down in price. They used to run around 80 cents per page.)

I have a few coins I've been storing in 2x2 flips for several years, and they all developed a film on their surfaces! I had two proof Washington 25 cent pieces from the 1990s and two Choice BU Mercury dimes. I used a soft cloth to clean them, and they came out okay, but not as good as they were.

But other coins I've put in 2x2 flips have been fine over the years. What gives?

Whitman products have gotten strange lately. Many of the slides your referring to are slightly curved or rather bowed. If yours are like that, it is necessary to put them in so the bowing is away from the coins. HOWEVER, this means there is more space between the slides and the coins so worn ones tend to move around or even slide between the cover sheet of paper and the cardboard with the slots.
If yours are like that, contact Whitman and request some more slides. NO they don't sell them separately but if you ask, they will send you some. I did and they sent me a package of about 50 of those slides FREE.

I would suspect the method of closing them. If not completely sealed well, air and moisture is getting to them. Try resealing them. OR those were sealed with a contaminate with the coins.

Conder101: The above was taken from Wizard coin supply. They carry several brands and NONE contain PVC. At many coin shows I go to they sell those too and none that I've seen there say made of PVC on the boxes. Not sure where you see them with PVC but I guess there are some out there.
