Hi All, Well I am about to do my first E-bay listing as a "buy it now". I am selling 11 junk silver Mercury dimes for $ 25.00 with free shipping. I wanted to get your opinions / advice on this listing before I do it. Thank you John *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** |

Your price seems attractive enough, melt for 11 90% dimes is $17.56 (Each Mercury dime contains 0.0723 troy ounces of silver and is valued at $1.60 when silver is at $22.07 / ounce.) (generic online silver calculator) You also need to take into consideration ebay fees (10%), PayPal fees (3% of the original sell price) and your overhead (packaging materials, postage and your time). " If you're planning to buy/sell 11 Mercury dime(s) when silver is priced at $22.07 / ounce, the final total may fall between $16.68 - $18.44 on eBay." We learn by doing. Edited by oih82w8

The other option is to do it as an auction a start the price slightly lower (but above melt). People like to bid these things up, but I guess it depends how junky they are.

I personally would put in the lowest price you can go, and let it get bid up.

if you do a BIN,it will be a larger fee than if you start the bid off at $25.00 7-day NR auction

Schris252- ebay changed their fee structure, It is 10% across the board if you do not have a store. |

I don't like the new ebay structure. In the past if an item was overpriced and the seller had to pay $1 to list it the next time around the seller would relist at a lower price. Now sellers can list a $5 item for $500 week after week after week and clog up the search for legit examples. I was talking to a friend in the UK recently who said ebay.uk has changed their fees so postage now also gets included in the 10% fee. Has that happened in the US yet? I'm pretty sure it hasn't happened in Australia. |

Yep postage is considered "profit" and is "taxed". That includes ebay and paypal fees. Right now with silver dropping I would probably do a bin. You get less traffic but you just might get your price. On the other hand I have seen a large number of 99 cent auctions this month. |
