I found an IHC at a pawn shop last week that is in an old, yellowed, flip that has a square window for the coin. Does anyone remember these things and when did they go out of style?

Yes and I don't know...

It has been several years since the last time I saw one, but it wouldn't surprise me to run across another at some point.

When I bought one of my Twenty Cent Pieces, it was (and still is) in a green self sealing flip with a square window. But the corners of the window are rounded. It has obviously been in that holder for a long time. Haven't seen another like that one since then.

Edit: just pulled the 20 cent out. It may have been glued rather than self sealing. But no Staples.

I've seen them here and there and they are always obviously old. I always replace them with new 2x2s just in case. I have no idea when they stopped making them.

I have seen the square opening a few times, but they always look very old. I think they were more common when tooling a round punch may have been more expensive.

I'm guessing these disappeared in the '60s.
Rest in Peace

You have to look at tons of raw coins to find even one of those old girls. Early 60's for last use I remember.

I agree with that.

My dad gave us all a Silver dollar in this type of holder when we were young.

I haven't seen any for a long time. I tried to find them on the internet but didn't have any luck with it.

Never thought of that. When I did stamps, it was hinges in the Harris album.

I'd take it out of there. Whatever they used for flips back then, they had a much less advanced understanding of coin chemistry and how plastic additives interact with it.

I generally agree.

Then again, if it has survived the last fifty years...
