For those who wish to have a complete sovereign date set this coin will be missing.

A few examples o the 1937 proof gold £5, $2, and £1/2 of Edward V111 also exist, as do the Five Shillings, 1/2 Crown, Florin, Shilling and Sixpence.

A few hundred examples of the Edward V111 1937 British 12 sided brass threepence also exist, and some of actually escaped into circulation.


The collector of British sovereigns just has to make do with the 1937 plain edge proof sovereign of George V1 instead. 5,501 plain edge 4 coin proof sets of these were made.

I have an example each of the George V1 1937 £5 and £2 plain edge proof coins, but these are easier to obtain than the proof £1 (sovereign) and £1/2 (Half Sovereign), of George V1, because the smaller denominations are much sought after, to complete date sets of the lower denominations, and so the sets were broken up, leaving the higher denominations as orphans.


The 1954 bronze Penny of Elizabeth 11 is unique, and sold at auction many years ago.
