I Get It The Damage Is Obvious (1971 D Quarter)

I just wanted to ask others if they could have caused the rim to look copper and smooth? Is that a D or a P? (It's a blob). The A's on obverse are filled, the eagle left claw is malformed...anything else? I am just looking to learn what to look for and your feedback would be helpful.

@sun, sure looks like a D mintmark to me. With regard to the excessively worn edge, that is mechanical damage (perhaps from slot machines).

It is a D mm.
Everything else can be attributed to damage.

50+ years going through vending machines, laundry machines, slot machines, etc. will wear down the rims of a quarter. Mint mark appears to be a "D" to me as well.
