Hello everyone,

I recently found this 2021 Roosevelt dime that looks very unusual, and I would appreciate your opinions.

The coin has an irregular, almost polygon-shaped outline all the way around. What caught my attention is that the reeded edge appears to follow the distorted shape instead of looking crushed in only one area.

Here are my observations:

* Date: 2021
* The coin has not been altered by me.
* The edge is fully reeded.
* The thickness appears very close to a normal 2021 dime.
* I compared it side-by-side with a regular dime, and the thickness is nearly identical.
* The shape looks consistent around the entire coin rather than a single flattened impact.

I've attached photos of:

* Obverse
* Reverse
* Edge
* Side-by-side comparison with a normal 2021 dime

Do you think this could be a genuine mint error (such as a collar or striking error), or is it more likely post-mint damage?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello Matt and to the Forum!
Your dime has been either deliberately or accidentally damaged - possibly as a result of being dropped in a parking lot. There is no way that it could have left the mint looking like this.

I appreciate your well thought out observations.

There is no way that occurred at the mint - your coin is damaged.

To CCF! I agree with above. Just a badly damaged Dime. It's all PMD, no errors at all. Worth 10 cents.

It is impossiible for that to happen when the coin was struck.
Just a well damaged dime. How it happened doesn't really matter.
