Odd 1943-P War Nickel - Coin Community Forum

Afterimage Valued Member United States 360 Posts	Posted 08/01/2013 5:51 pm I was at work going through change when I came across this strange War Nickel. Was this caused due to a cracked die or could this have happened to the coin while out in circulation? I have never seen a coin like this before. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 08/01/2013 6:33 pm A lamination is an internal flaw in the alloy which results in the metal peeling off the surface in thin layers. I suppose you could call it an error but it is exceedingly common and I see it more as damage because it will typically devalue a nice coin. However, the value of common circulated coins is not really affected by it. Report this Post to the Staff
