I know someone locally who has hoarded several buckets of copper cents, so I plan to ask them if they'll let me go through and pull out the wheat cents and pay them 5 cents per...I'm hopeful they'll go for it.  Melt value (if it was lawful) is about 1.7 cents per copper cent as of today. Do you think 5 cents per wheat is a fair price for both parties? |

More than fair. Most coin shops will only give you 2.5 cents for them. I can pick them out of my dealers junk box for .07 apiece or 20 per dollar.

I would go down to 3-4 cents/coin range if I were you.
I would only pay 2.5-3 cents each myself. But I usually find a hundred or more per month CRHing

i would offer $.02 for each that are 1940s or 1950s. $.05 for anything older (to keep the math simple)

5 cents a piece if there is a nice distribution. I.E a lot of pre 40's. If they are 40's and 50's, which is generally the case, 4-5 cents is over the top. Good luck!

5 cents each is high.
2-3 cents is going rate I think. A lot of bulk to deal with and copper at multi-year lows.
When I get them in change, I just spend them.

I also agree it is fair and I encourage you to go for it because I would. I've seen huge tip jars that only seem to be in the states and they never let me look inside them, these tip jars I've seen are like 2 milk jugs worth, I think I need to talk to the manager more anyway post your finds if possible and good luck.

There is no way I would pay 5 cents each for wheats from the 40's and 50's.

Thanks for your input everyone! I think if he goes for the deal I'll separate the wheat from the chaff (pardon the pun) and have a pile of pre-40's and a pile of post-40's. Then I'll try and negotiate a lower price on the post-40's. I'll let you know if this deal comes together  Happy Hunting  |

Wow, I didn't realize the magnitude of the hoarded cents I'm trying to get permission to search for LWCs...I just learned there are >10, 5-gal buckets! If I get permission to look through them, even if only for the LWCs (could be IHCs, too!), it'll take a looooong time...Now I'm more excited than I was before  |

Will be easier than sorting bags or boxes from the bank. You should be able to grab most of them by spreading out a bucket on the table or floor and moving it around for a bit. The wheats and IHC's usually stand out |

Be aware that based on my loose estimation, you have more than 250,000 coins to go through, if it is really 10+ buckets.... and literally a ton of pennies (1800+ lbs)
