@clarapedrero1989, if your scale is correct, then this cent is slightly above the US Mint Tolerance: 2.5 g +/- 0.12 g. That is pretty close.

maybe plated ? could account for the extra weight

It might be this or was gold plated. If they surface is shiny then it may have been plated. If it is as shiny as a regular cent then it maybe one of the so called, brass cents?
