I'm posting this to educate those unfamiliar with a true toned coin. This is NOT. Working with steel for a living it is almost certainly Dyekem 80300 dye used to mark steel for cutting/shearing purposes.

Listings such as this annoy me beyond comprehension. Why?

Step 1: Get a common Peace dollar in AU.
Step 2: Polish the crud out of it.
Step 3: Chemically tone the crud out of it.
Step 4: Profit.

So the cycle continues.....

A bit sad really. I mean who needs to go to those extremes just to chisel a few dollars.

Does this actually stain the coin permanently or is it just a coating on the surface?

I don't even like this "toning" job...I wouldn't bid it.

I feel glad, in this case,
that we all see it as a scam.
