In last night's TCNC auction (Prominence Sale VI - Session 4), Lot #1396 was a 1955 $1 coin, certified by ICCS with grade of MS-63 and the comment was "Fu Manchu".

Based on image and lot description, clashed dies have given the queen a straight-line moustache.

Hammer + premium = $659.64
Current Trends for MS-63 = $50 (not Arnprior)

TCNC states that this was a test of the market for such an item.

Interesting to say the least.

The 1955 dollar "Fu Manchu" variety is a die clash on the voyager at the
rear of the canoe and has a value of about $148.00 in MS63 condition.
I have never seen or heard of one on the queen. Please provide linc as
there cannot be two varieties with the same name.

Website is not intuitive on how to get a link (hence why I provided lot details) but glad it was requested as it forced me to figure it out...

Always amazed what people pony up for very minor die clashes .

I still don't see where the clash from the canoe came from. And I agree about someone spending that amount of money on something so trivial.

I am even more surprised that ICCS put that "expression" on the certification flip!! Dr. Fu Manchu is a fictitious supervillain. I think that ICCS comment is what drew the bidding.

I would have expected ICCS to be somewhat professional here, and put "die clash" in the comments.
