In last night's TCNC auction (Prominence Sale VI - Session 4), Lot #1396 was a 1955 $1 coin, certified by ICCS with grade of MS-63 and the comment was "Fu Manchu".
Based on image and lot description, clashed dies have given the queen a straight-line moustache.
Hammer + premium = $659.64 Current Trends for MS-63 = $50 (not Arnprior)
TCNC states that this was a test of the market for such an item.
The 1955 dollar "Fu Manchu" variety is a die clash on the voyager at the rear of the canoe and has a value of about $148.00 in MS63 condition. I have never seen or heard of one on the queen. Please provide linc as there cannot be two varieties with the same name.
I am even more surprised that ICCS put that "expression" on the certification flip!! Dr. Fu Manchu is a fictitious supervillain. I think that ICCS comment is what drew the bidding.
I would have expected ICCS to be somewhat professional here, and put "die clash" in the comments.
