Quote: You could literally entitle this post of mine "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"... Quote:Been busily hunting nickels still. Crazy amazing 1921-S Buffalo nickel found in a MWR along with a very damaged 1939-D Jefferson and four War Nickels highlight my recent CRH finds. Nice finds!

Thanks, jbuck and Errers... So my nickels have cooled off a little this month... And, on Wednesday, I hit a negative milestone I hoped I would NEVER achieve doing this. That said, I knew that it was inevitably going to happen someday... I purchased 1,000 nickels from one of my main branches: 800 in MWR, 200 in CWR... While the rolls themselves were productive enough - 12 keepers (10 in the MWR, 2 in the CWR) - not a single pre-1960 coin was to be found! A lone 2009-D along with 11 2024-Ds made it a decent batch overall. I have stumbled upon dumps, of course, which haven't yielded any pre-60s, but this is the first ever group of 1,000+ non-dump nickels I've bought which has achieved this dubious distinction. My previous low was two pre-1960 coins.

5,000 nickels bought on Saturday from 5 different branches produced 41 pre-60s, 3, 2009-Ds, 2 2024-Ps, and 16 2024-Ds. The 6 best coins were a key date 1939-S, a 1944-S War Nickel, semi-key 1950 and 1955 Philly coins (first of the year for the latter), and a very nice 1958 Philly. I also found a dateless Philadelphia minted Buffalo which is getting "pickled".
