Please estimate the grade of this coin for me if you don't mind. Would that rim ding on the obverse pull it down a few grades? Thinking about purchasing it - what would you guess is a fair price? Thanks!
I think AU-55. I think that hit on the rim is not significant enough to cause a downgrade or a details grade. Assuming this is not a rare VAM, I think this coin would be worth around $50-55.
That's a look I've seen in photos shot in direct sunlight. I don't know about the quality of the surfaces as a result - but the coin is nothing extraordinary and the "textile" look on the right obverse is disconcerting. I think I'd pass on this one unless the price was outstanding.
Looks pretty to me but I'm no expert. I need a 1878 rev 78 but may keep holding out unless you guys think $61 is a good deal (seems like maybe a fair price but not a steal?)
