'98's are generally pretty tough to attribute because there are dozens of varieties, many of which look a LOT alike. For condition, off the top of my head it looks like a G5 to me, maybe better (if it's a clean planchet), maybe worse (if that's corrosion on the reverse rather than crud).
Still, it has enough detail to be utterly attributable, so let's see...
Well, there are about 4 pages in Sheldon with a half-dozen or so on each that all look identical to this one for me.
My best guess so far is somewhere between 167 and 173. Would be a good place for somebody to start! =)

I've been collecting Large Cents for only a short time now and one thing I've found out about them is they are an almost endless pile of varieties. It is really fasinating at coin shows when you see 5 or 10 of them all the same date and all are different. Think I'll go back to normal coins.   |

I can't be sure without better large pictures or having the coin in hand, but I think it is S-169, and R-3.

just_carl, '93's are usually pretty easy to attribute if they're G4 or better, maybe you should collect those? :P (maybe we ALL should!) Thanks, Conder! I saw a '94 Conder token this morning on ebay and thought of you. Hope you are well! |

Ohhh how I love large cents! I've got a 98 as well but it's AG, makes me wanna upgrade. ^_^

I just purchased my first 1798 Large Cent earlier this week. Everything is readable on it and its the first coin I own from the 1700's. I paid $70 for the coin...not a bad deal in my opinion for such an old piece of history.
