I picked up this 1903-O Barber half this morning for a couple bucks over melt. Would like to get some opinions on grade.

Look at "LIBERTY"
The "BER" all show. That is the definition of a fine. Nice denticles, both obverse and reverse.
I have seen coins like this going for fine, so if you bought it just a few dollars above melt I'd say you did very well.
As a Barber expert let me add:
The halves, in fine and above, are very difficult to find. Not to mention the quarters. The more that I look at your coin the more that I like it.
Good Job!

Yep F-12 sounds about right.

I graded it a F & was looking for confirmation. I've been looking for one for my 7070 for quite a while. I'm really looking for a VF-EF, but at $16.35 I figured I'd fill the hole until I found a deal on a better one. It could be quite a while before I find one at a price I'm willing to pay.

I'm going to have to disagree with the deffinition of FINE that was given. FINE should have all letters readable, faint at min. Barber half dollar General Grading Standards G4 Good- Date and legends readable. LIBERTY worn off headband. VG8 Very Good- Minimum of three letters readable in LIBERTY. F12 Fine- LIBERTY completely readable but not sharp. VF20 Very Fine- All letters in LIBERTY evenly plain. EF40 Extremely Fine- LIBERTY bold, and its ribbon distinct. AU50 About Uncirculated- Slight trace of wear above forehead, leaf tips, and cheek. Also on the head, tail and wing tips of the eagle. MS60 Uncirculated- No trace of wear. Light blemishes. MS63 Select Uncirculated- Some distracting contact marks or blemishes in prime focal areas. Luster may be impaired. PF63- Reflective surfaces with only a few blemishes in secondary focal places. No major flaws. From the pics I don't see all the letters. So I would grade this one VG. But I am a very conservative grader.

I'd go F-12. Q. David Bowers has this to say, " LIBERTY, the key place to check,, is weak, especially at ER, but is fully readable. The ANA adhere to this. PCGS suggests that lightly struck coins "may have letters partially missing."".
