wert Rest in Peace 1988 Posts	Posted 02/22/2012 11:53 pm Hi guys Look at this 1953 nickel. 1 - Looks like a NSF. 2 - Look at the denticles. The denticles are stamped too far out near the edge of the coin. If this was stamped normally, wouldn't this be a NEAR...? That would make it a 1953 NSF NEAR...? Report this Post to the Staff

DBM Pillar of the Community Canada 9872 Posts	Posted 02/24/2012 02:31 am It is a far leaf,never was, or could be a near leaf.The leaf did not change positions for the near leaf reverse,the rims are thicker making the leaf closer to the denticles.If all those years ago these varieties had been named "narrow rim" and "wide rim" a lot of collector confusion would have been avoided."Far leaf" and "near leaf" give the impression that the leaf changed positions,but its position was not changed from one reverse to the other.
