This week's update on our Farmers Market change given. $180 in Half dollars handed out to customers. I enlightened quite a few people on the availability, convenience and efficiency of half dollars and $2 bills! Grant
I gave three dollar coins to my hairdresser for a tip. Later on, I spent $1.50 in halves at a burger bar (the clerk was fascinated that I was spending halves). Later on, I spent another half at Bed Bath & Beyond to complement the paper bills. In all, this is $5 in coins.
I find it funny that people are going to the bank to get halves, just to find a way to spend them. Seems like a waste of time, money, and energy on this.
I get 5% cash back (bonus) for groceries with a FREE credit card. Someone through out the number of $15,000 to spend in halves.
$15,000 x 5% = $750 Did you happen to find over $750 in silver from that $15,000? Not to mention the time and waste of hauling them around everywhere.

But that's just me :)
So which card do you have?
The highest cash back card I have ever seen si 1.5% on all purchases.
Many cards run quarterly promos of 5% cash back with a cap at $2,000 in purchases.
Ever wonder why prices of everything are going up?
It is because the public feels it is OK to whip out their credit card to pay for a $1.30 purchase which costs the retailer 3% plus a transaction fee while the rest of us who live within our means and can afford to pay cash for our purchases have to shoulder the burden while millions of people who have lived the life of luxury they couldn't afford and file chapter whatever bankruptcy while I have had to suffer for 25 years because my parents taught me the difference between right and wrong.
He is probably using the Chase Freedom card, anyways I agree with wrestling, why use cash when you can use your card and get rewards? I've had over a dozen free flights over the last year because I charge everything and never use cash, HOWEVER, I search rolls of halves and use excess to shop places that don't take credit cards or have a minimum, or when I don't have time to dump at a bank I'll use some as cash.
$3 in half dollars at CVS $7.50 in halves at Whole Foods
I spent a single half to help pay for a grocery bill. Later on, I exchanged a dollar coin and a quarter to augment my change for gas to an even $5.00. So, I spent $1.50 total in coins.
I spent a dollar coin yesterday to pay for some groceries, then I spent a half today as part of another grocery bill. Later on, I spent another half at a kids' lemonade stand. I don't know if they've ever seen a half before, so I hope this lights a spark of curiosity within them to find out more about the coin (I gave them the newest one I had, a 1997-D Kennedy). In all, I spent $2.00 in coins.
