I did not think I'd join this party, but my other collection needed feeding.

I saw some 3600 better date (pre 1986) Topps baseball cards available at a sports card shop yesterday while searching "junk era" (1986-1993) cards for hole fillers and other junk sets I wanted to work on. Shop owner wanted $40 for the near complete set of 1985 among those. They were still there today when I called, so I haggled $50 over the phone for those plus the 3000 '84, '86, and '87 cards that were in the box as well.

The $50 I scared up to buy them, for better for worse, were spare SBA and Presidentials that I had tucked in my fob pocket. He asked "Where'd you get these?" as he checked the rolls. I told him and said that I still had 5 missing from my folder. He then gave me a tip on a local coin collector that worked at the liquor store down the street. I may be paying that tip a visit sometime soon.

Didn't go out for dinner, decided I have stuff at home I need to fix.

I spent 2 SBA to pay for a bottled soft drink. The cashier at first said "two gold dollars" but when he actually got them close enough to see, he said "oh, two silver dollars". That was the first time I have heard SBA call "silver dollars"

FYI - Today, I went by my bank to get more small dollars. The cashier started to pull the ones out of her drawer, when I mentioned I wanted something more like 500 from the safe. She waited for the head cashier to get through with another customer, then told her I wanted about 500 small coins. They had loose rolls, but they also had a sealed box from their supplier. I moved money from savings (that is not drawing any interest) and picked up a $1000 box of bank wrapped rolls of small dollars. I will spend tonight going through to separate golden dollars and SBA. It should take me about 2 months to spend them.

Update: 1000 = 52 SBA, 303 SAC/NA, 643 Pres, 1 impaired/bent proof, and 1 UK 2 Pence

Try leaving them as tips when you eat out. The waiter Saturday was happy to get them.

FYI - Numbers for Project $100K

The close of 8/5 means 4 months have passed since this project was started.

In 4 months, $4833 were spent:
1st month - $615
2nd month - $1099
3rd month - $1422
