I used to search nickels heavily in the mid to late 1990s. The biggest fun is getting a nickel from before 1960, and they are still out there. It's remarkable for a coin 50+ years old to still be in circulation. It's such a thrill to get a key date from roll searching- I've gotten 2 1950-D from roll searching.
I knew this topic would evoke some responses! LOLOLOL
I'm just over half way done. No matter how you shake it, the process is painful. Nearly every single coin has to be closely examined to determine if it's cleaned, BU or AU. I'm only interested in the MS coins and those older than 1960. Right now, I have about 15 gem coins with glowing luster and nearly hit-free, about 20 pre-60's and a container with 200-300 MS coins from 70-90's. I also noticed the 1982 coins are slightly more valuable, so I have another stack with about 10 BU 1982's.
