The secondary market is selling these for $169.95 (paul sims). I just don't like it...taking advantage of the unknowingly/too lazy to do the footwork...nevermind.

That's a huge dropoff, only 9900 per day over the weekend. If that number were to hold it would mean around 350,000 sets sold.

Strange that you would pick a seller that is making less than $20 on the set when there are some out there selling them for over $200 Do you think he should sell them for less than he can get them for?....don't forget...some collectors do NOT order from the Mint at all (obviously) ..."someone to lazy to do the footwork" and being "taken advantage of" do not fit in the same sentence

Im not convinced the mint counter is all that accurate judging from how the rest of their business has been handled lately

121,304 today. Only 6245 since yesterday. That puts us on a pace for 265,000 total.

If that holds it would be awesome for this set....but...if it holds the last day of sales could be ugly

Well I am on the other side and believe the Mint counter is accurate
"scarcer than they really are" ?
How "scarce" can they be when you can order them at will?

I don't believe that anyone at the mint or PBGS ever deliberately modifies sales number reports for any purpose other than to correct previous errors. The mint's weekly sales report should come out today or tomorrow and will include sales through yesterday. Aside from different sales capture times the number should match what we have been seeing, which means it should be between yesterday's number and today's. I think it will be interesting to see what, if anything, we can tell about ourselves as a group once this sale concludes. There is almost surely to be some uptick in sales volume in the last few days, if for no other reason than the procrastinators among us will finally buy their sets. I have started a graph of the sales and it has already turned the classic knee and is starting to flatten out.
Once we get through next Friday (the 22nd), we should be able to tell if we have any day of the week buying habits.

I agree, I think they may be slow to add to the number or just reporting total orders. Quote: How "scarce" can they be when you can order them at will? If the mintage stays lower more people would be likely to order the set as opposed to if it was already sitting at 500k a good number of people would say not worth it. That said if were looking at under 300k sales could double on the last day alone if people think they can flip them at that point

I wonder if they have all ready struck 250,000 or even 350,000 and are getting them ready to go..It would make them look like they were on top of the issue.. also longer you wait the older the dies get, that's why I like to get the early releases..much nicer coin's...just a thought...

Just an FYI the early releases are nothing more than a marketing ploy. The mint strikes pretty much every coin before its sold. All the coins are put into the same lot and the early releases mean nothing more than they were some of the first graded and that person or company paid for the label. The coins all get mixed in together so the only way to get a first struck coin is to be a release ceremony or work there and pick one off the line. For what its worth too if youre buying slabbed 70 coins even a true early release wouldnt really mean anything. You cant get any better than perfect

basebal21, I'm not talking about coins for grading.when the dies are new there are at there best, I've seen video's of striking and as there are made there put in sets almost as fast as the coins are struck, ready to ship.( bullion coins are put in bins, proofs are not.) So the first coins are usually better than a Month down the road. I have better luck early coins than later ones, just say'n..I shouldn't have said early release..
