Just placed my order for 3 2013 ASE's...1 for the book, 2 for putaway...Feeling anxious, wish the mint would sell the silver proof sets in the beginning of the year, but I guess it gives us something to look forward to!

What are you feeling anxious about? It's only 3 ounces not 300 or 3,000 for that matter.

In a way I'm of the same feeling as the op, but most probably not for the same reason or reasons.

1: I'm really concerned about the current high premiums that the mint is charging and wondering if I wait for awhile if the mint would be forced to reduced their price on the their silver products.

2: With the amount of the ASE products that the mint is releasing and coupling this quantity with the quantity of releases over the past two years if there is going to be a saturation point where the value of their products will be lessened by their seemingly feeding more product into the market place than a numismatic following can absorb.

3: I wonder if my hankering for the product will keep up their output. In other words if just one 2013 ASE is sufficient for my purposes or do I want more.

So along with the OP I have some demons of my own that I have to resolve before I start a purchasing frenzy.

I do believe that $60/ounce for an ASE when compared to $46/ounce for a 5 ounce coin to the current market price of $30/ounce is a bit out of kilter. I know that I will most likely end up purchasing these coins but my aprehension is about timing the purchase.

That is why I am anxious about the current pricing structure. I enjoy the hobby but I don't have a midas pocketbook.

{edit}
Besides the count number of the OP seems to indicate to me that he may be a new collector and may have doubts about if he is doing the right thing for him.

I know I do and I've been at this for awhile. Sometimes I wonder if the mint is trying to kill the golden goose.

Whats to be anxious about? Perhaps he simply wants his coins. Perhaps he would like to get his proof coins right away as well. Perhaps he is excited about the purchases and thought maybe fellow collectors would have a positive sympathetic reaction instead of flippant comments.

jimfan, I am actually glad they space it out. I can't afford 2 each of the Mint sets, Proof sets, Silver Proof sets, a Silver and regular Proof quarter set, P,D&S rolls of the ATBs, P&D rolls of Kennedys, likely the presidential and native american rolls, and at least 3 ASEs on their own and the set all at one time. LOL But I want them all in my hands right now darn it! So I get anxious too, especially once I order them.

ghost, I don't see there being too much of a saturation issue. Judging by the amount of complaining I have seen about the mint selling out of ASEs and silver proof sets over the last couple years, I get the idea demand may be a bit beyond supply.

I also firmly believe silver is still undervalued and should be closer to 50 an ounce than 30. Eventually the efforts to suppress the value will fail even further and it will get to its rightful values.

Even were it to stay at this level, the ASEs are not minted in enough quantity to remove their numismatic value. Before someone gets snarky, I am not speaking of the "bullion" coins. So I think there will be some value above melt if silver value doesn't budge another penny. And falling is not something it is going to do. The idiots in charge have messed the economy up to the point of guaranteeing PMs stay high.

I don't think they are going to be reducing prices by any great amount anytime soon. And I don't believe the premiums are so huge that they are hurtful. But that really differs by person and what they feel is collectible and what isn't.

Smokeriderdon hit the nail on the head...I am very new to coin collecting (last year), so 2013 is my first official full year of coin collecting and I am really looking forward to all the releases that are coming and the excitement of it all. Part of me wishes everything was for sale at the beginning of the year and we can all pick and choose what we want, when we want it, but I know their could be cons to it, like, if it was all available, it all might sell out right away and drive demand over the top on the secondary market, and it gives the 99% of us time to save and or pay off our purchases throughout the year..Wish I was a 1%'er...I would buy alot of coins.

What is everyone's thoughts on ATB S mint rolls, I see some big demand right now, given the rolls sold out and ebay is selling high, wonder if they truly will be worth anything long term...Thoughts?

jimfan, yes, they will hold value. There are several reasons.

First, they are the first business strike quarters from the San Fran mint since 1955. Collectors have always had a fascination with S mint coins, and many times the mintage from San Fran has been below the other mints.

Second, low mintage. The mintage on these is just under 1.5 million. Especially for a modern minting, that is way low.

Third, quality. On the whole, it seems as if these are the best of the three mints in the quality of what I consider to be the best year of the series so far.

So if you have the money to do so, I would certainly say snag at least a roll of each this year. This year is not as nice as 2012, but they should still hold interest.

Oh and ....

I tell you what... I agree with the spacing out too, in theory. I fell behind on my 2012s when they started piling up at the end of the year and just dropped a pile of cash to round out my 2012 year. At least I have about a month to breathe before the first 2013 ATB 5-oz Ag release, but still it makes it hard to stick money elsewhere, like bullion, which is one of my goals for 2013.

What's that catch phrase these days... oh yes: "First World Problems"...

I just bought the last 4 2012 issues of S-mint rolls 2 nights ago, and whoa - just checked the Mint store site and only Denali and Acadia S are available now? Wow. I agree...these guys are going to command a bit of a premium. No one's going to retire on the profit of a few rolls, though. I am guessing some people decided to buy a lot of rolls and roll the dice on ebay or TV coin shopping shows.

Congrats on the 2013 ASE's jimfan. I really love ASEs -- the bullions, UNCs and proofs. Collecting them is very satisfying, no matter what your goal is. Keep it up!
