It has a full date and isn't completely worn on the reverse.

I agree with Missy. I believe that coins should not be altered or deformed in any way.

I'm torn on these. while I think the alterations are very cool I'm a bit against altering coins.

I am certainly not an expert on hobo nickels but the patination and crudeness of the carving make me think this could be a contemporary hobo nickel. If that is the case, it would have been carved when it was just a simple nickel from pocket change and might have been traded for a hot meal or a bed for the night.
