Not the best looking coins... So how do you tell if a worn coin has a "weak" D?

Both of them are normal Ds, not weak, although the second one is in a much later die state than the first.

biokemist is right on this one, both are regular D's. A weakly struck reverse is a diagnostic for a weak D.
